Jiayuguan is a city located in the northwest of Gansu Province, China. Situated at the western end of the Hexi Corridor, an important historical and geographic passageway along the Silk Road. It is bordered by the Gobi Desert to the north and surrounded by mountains, including the Qilian Mountains to the south.
One of the main attractions in Jiayuguan is the Jiayuguan Pass, also known as the “First and Greatest Pass Under Heaven.” It is an ancient fortress that was strategically built to guard the western end of the Great Wall of China. Located about 15 kilometers northeast of Jiayuguan, the Wei-Jin Tombs are ancient burial sites dating back to the Wei and Jin dynasties (3rd to 5th centuries). The tombs contain beautifully decorated murals depicting scenes of daily life, mythological figures, and historical events.
